How "No God" Was Written

this song was pretty interesting. the original idea for this was -very- different. it came out of me randomly one night and i was actually pretty surprised at what i felt compelled to do - scream over a church organ.

aaron was kind of tepid on it but saw a lot of potential in it. he asked me to try two things - one to add some percussion, and two to remove the sense of time and let it just sort of slog through naturally. he also wanted more of a sense of growth and harshness.

After that, it was more or less clear how that ‘loud’ version could be made proper, and it was up to me to add more layers and percussion to make it so. however, one saturday morning i started singing it quietly and softly, and it struck me how nice it sounded and how much more appropriate it mind end up being. so, i whipped up this quieter version which ended up being the final decision of where it would land.
